Dear Toquam Families,
I am thrilled to enter the 2011-2012 school year as Toquam Magnet Elementary School’s new Principal! Serving our school community as Assistant Principal has given me the opportunity and distinct pleasure to watch our students grow, build relationships with our families, and strengthen our ties to the community. As Principal, I will lead initiatives that build a stronger sense of community for our students, staff, and families; create more opportunities for families to engage in their child’s school experience; and move data driven decision making to the forefront of our instructional core.
This year we welcome a new Assistant Principal, Dr. Reina Costanzo, who will help to shape our school and create a balanced program that meets the needs of all children. As a Magnet School community, we will continue to grow and proudly represent the many communities and faces of Stamford. This year we anticipate welcoming over 625 students through our school doors.
We take pride in our focus on high standards and a rigorous program that is evident through all areas of curricula regardless of grade level, or content area. Teachers develop critical thinking skills by challenging students to ask “why,” make connections to real life experiences, conduct investigations, and integrate the content areas. Our talented staff is committed to working together to ensure all children’s strengths are built upon and the unique needs of all students are being met.
Each of you has an open invitation to visit our school, attend your child’s programs, become an active member in the PTO, or volunteer in a classroom. There are many exciting events, fundraising activities, and after-school programs planned throughout the year so be sure to check out our totally renovated website and empty your child's backpack daily so you don't miss any important news.
Toquam remains committed to implementing and reinvigorating its Bank Street philosophy in order to prepare children for higher education and success in the 21st Century. The 2011-2012 school year is upon us and we will continue to move our school forward by engaging all students at the highest levels.
Respectfully,
Mark V. Woodard
Principal
