Principal Sibyl Brooks

Sibyl Dawn Brooks is the Principal of Toquam Magnet Elementary School.  Most recently, Brooks was employed in Danbury Public Schools as the assistant principal at Westside Middle School Academy for two years and assistant principal at Broadview Middle School for three years. She also served as interim principal for the district’s Hayestown Elementary School for one year.

Her more than 20-year educational career also includes the roles of assistant principal at Connecticut Technical High School and Wilbur Cross Elementary School in Bridgeport.  Brooks has also held teaching and administrative roles in Bloomfield and Hartford. 

Brooks holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle School Mathematics and Science, as well as a Sixth Year School Administrator Certification, and a pending Superintendent Certification from Southern Connecticut State University.

Brooks has two young adult children and two grandchildren who she spends most of her time as their personal “Uber” driver taking them to their football and basketball practices. She comes from a family of educators, so early on she knew that she wanted to impact children and families, as well as become a role model for black and brown children. 

Brooks is passionate and dedicated to teaching and learning. She works tirelessly to ensure staff and students are safe, respectful and responsible.  She hold herself accountable to all stakeholders and believes that together we can address areas for improvement in order to close the achievement gap.

Assistant Principal Corine Matarasso

Corine Matarasso is a long-time Stamford resident and member of the SPS staff.  Before becoming the Assistant Principal, she has served as the teacher leader for student support at Toquam Magnet School. Matarasso began her SPS career at K.T. Murphy Elementary School, where she was a teacher in multiple grade levels and served as the school’s administrative intern for four years.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing at SUNY F.I.T. and a Master of Science in Elementary Education, as well as an Intermediate Administration and Supervision Advanced Degree from the University of Bridgeport. Matarasso has a Remedial Reading certificate from Sacred Heart University and completed the UCONN NEAG School of Education PK-3 Leadership Program.

Administrative Intern Ryan Perkins

Ryan Perkins joins the Toquam family this year as our Administrative Intern. Ryan is  entering his 4th year in the district. Previously, Mr. Perkins served as the middle school English teacher, team leader, and School Climate Specialist at Anchor, the alternative program for Stamford Public Schools. In addition to that role, Ryan also served as the head coach of the Westhill Varsity Girls Soccer team.

Before teaching, Ryan attended Fairfield University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in English Studies and a Masters degree in English Education while also playing for Fairfield University’s Division I Men’s Soccer team. Mr. Perkins obtained his Administration and Supervision certification (092) from Sacred Heart University, and is currently working on his Sixth Year Degree in Social and Emotional Learning.
